Hand-built sculptural ceramics inspired by Pacific redwood forests, British craft history, and the quiet magic of lived landscapes. International exhibitor. Available as a visiting artist .
Crystal Lee Lane is a ceramic artist based in Aptos, California, making sculptural hand-built ceramics, gnomey homes, fairy houses, and tiny architectural worlds, inspired by the coastal redwood forests of Santa Cruz County and the fantasy illustration of Brian Froud.
Drawing on the legacy of Josiah Wedgwood, who united technical mastery with cultural purpose at his Staffordshire studio, she approaches ceramics as object, environment, and community act. She has exhibited internationally, including two juried shows in Stoke-on-Trent, the historic capital of British ceramics.
Her long-term goal: serve as a bridge within ceramics communities, supporting knowledge exchange and keeping technical traditions alive for future makers. She works out of Higher Fire in the area while her own studio in Aptos comes together (2027!).
Two juried exhibitions in Stoke-on-Trent, the historic home of British ceramics. California community shows. London next.
Crystal is actively seeking visiting artist opportunities and workshop facilitation, particularly with institutions interested in hand-building traditions, community firing, and the intersection of craft and a little bit of magic.
Her practice travels well. She has exhibited in the UK and is attending Ceramic Art London 2026. International opportunities are very welcome. She brings not just a developed sculptural practice but a genuine commitment to ceramics as a community act.
